Eco Blog 12: World Earth Day

Hi everyone, Chiara here for my final eco blog. I hope that over this time you have enjoyed the blogs and see the small changes that can make a difference to our planet. I know I have been inspired by the different stories I have read.

This Thursday is World Earth Day so perhaps choose that day to make one fundamental change to your lifestyle for the good of creation. I am choosing some vegan days as well as vegetarian in the week. I have also stopped buying magazines with plastic add ons which add to waste. What will yours be?

To celebrate World Earth day Eco church are running a poster competition open to everyone under 16. The theme of the poster is “Care for our Common Home” and the closing date is May 21st a fortnight before World Environment Day on June 5th. The best entri

es will be displayed on the eco church board with prizes for the top three entries.

A date for the diary: on Sunday 9th May Flitwick church will have their first service for Climate Sunday. The 9 o’clock and 10.30 services will be on the theme of Climate justice and care of our common home. Climate Sunday has been organised by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) with support from charities including CAFOD, Christian Aid, Tearfund, A Rocha UK, and Operation Noah.

The national Climate Sunday event takes place on Sunday 5th September 2021, to share church commitments and pray for bold action and courageous leadership. Churches throughout the UK and Ireland have been invited to hold a service themselves before that date.

May is bike to work month so perhaps this is something you would like to try or even bike to church or school. We can’t all cycle so why not walk if you can or give public transport a go. We can all play our part in making the world a greener place for everyone.

It has been brilliant to share these blogs over the last 3 months…doesn’t time fly!

Until we meet again keep safe and keep caring for our world for this generation and the next. Every bit of creation is a gift from God and we are asked to look after it…let’s hope we will!

Best wishes

Chiara x
