Christenings

Start an amazing journey...

During their Christening, your child will be baptised with water. It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your friends and family. Baptism is a visible sign of God’s love. At a Christening, we are thanking God for the gift of life and preparing a child for their life ahead.

To find out more, please call Kathryn, our Parish Administrator on 01525 712369. or email admin@flitwickchurch.org, being sure to leave a contact telephone number.

Further information about Christenings and the service itself may be found at Church of England Christenings

How Does It Work?

Christenings at Flitwick Parish Church are normally held on Sundays at 12.15pm or during the main Sunday morning service at 10.30am. Once we have set a date, members of our Baptism team will be in touch and invite you to the Church for a preparation session. You’ll be able to meet other families with children being Christened and ask any questions you might have. There will also be coffee and biscuits!

Following the Christening itself, you will be  invited to attend a "Sunday Celebration" service on the first Sunday of the month, where the whole church family will have the chance to welcome your little one and you’ll receive your Christening cards.

How Much Will it Cost?

There are no charges for Christening – God’s love is free. However, because restrictions around COVID mean that we need to clean the Church, print special orders of service and heat the building specially, we are currently asking for a contribution of £50. If you felt able to make that up to a donation of £100 to help the ministry of the Church in these times of financial difficulty, we would be most grateful.

Who Can Be Christened Here?

Anyone! If you live in Flitwick or have strong connections to the Church here, we would be delighted to have a Christening service for you. As parents, you don’t have to be Christened yourself to bring your child for Christening.  And you don’t have to be a baby – Baptism is for anyone of any age who wants to begin or take another step on their faith journey.
